Hello, hello, and welcome to Tremendously Chaotic! I’m Liza, your writer, your host, and the voice behind this blog. If you’ve landed here, chances are you’re curious about how to start a blog, how to build multiple income streams, and how to earn money online — all from the comfort of your laptop.
This post is my honest breakdown of how I started blogging, the mistakes I made, and the lessons you can skip straight to. I’ve been in this online world since 2020, experimenting with blogs, YouTube, and other hustles, and after a lot of trial and error, I’ve finally figured out what actually works.
And the best part? You can do this even if you have $0 to start.
My Blogging Journey: From Teenager to Graduate
I started my very first blog back in 2020, when I was a teenager in A-Levels. At the time, I only wrote fiction, and I was too naive to realize that blogging could become an actual income stream. Fast forward to 2022, when I entered university, I shut that blog down.
Now in 2025, as a 21-year-old law graduate, I’ve returned to blogging with a clearer purpose: to share the real side of side hustles, to show you exactly how to build something from scratch, and to guide you with the lessons I’ve learned the hard way.
Along the way, I’ve also created PDF guides and resources on Gumroad for those of you who want a fast-track, step-by-step system.
Step 1: Pick a Blog Name
The first step is to choose a name. For me, that name was Tremendously Chaotic — because honestly, that’s how my life feels at times.
- Your blog name doesn’t have to be perfect.
- It just needs to be something you connect with.
- Bonus if it’s memorable and easy to spell.
Don’t overthink it. Pick something you can grow with.
Step 2: Choose a Platform (Blogger vs. WordPress)
This is where I made my first big mistake. I chose WordPress with Bluehost hosting because every YouTuber I watched told me it was “beginner-friendly.” Spoiler: it wasn’t.
Here’s the truth:
- WordPress + Bluehost is not beginner-friendly. It requires plugins for everything, the AI design tools are restrictive, and I even needed help from my sister (a machine learning engineer) just to make small changes.
- Blogger, on the other hand, is free, simple, customizable, and linked directly to Google. It even shows you your traffic stats right on your dashboard.
If you’re just starting out in 2025, my honest advice: start on Blogger. You can always upgrade later, but you’ll save yourself the stress and confusion in the early days.
Step 3: Choose Your Niche
This was my second mistake. For three months, I kept switching niches. I tried:
- Mental health (too personal for me).
- Dark romance reviews (loved the books, but blogging about them made me resent reading).
- Weight loss (again, too personal — I value my privacy).
After trial and error, I realized my niche should be what I know best: side hustles, blogging, and earning online.
Lesson: Take your time, experiment, but once you land on something that feels right — stick to it. Your niche is the foundation of your blog.
Step 4: Research Before You Write
Once you have your niche, it’s time to brainstorm blog ideas. Here’s what I do:
- Use Pinterest as a search engine (type in keywords like blogging tips, side hustles, etc.).
- Ask AI tools like ChatGPT for brainstorming support.
- Create a list of 20–30 blog post ideas in advance.
Example: If you’re in the lifestyle niche and want to write about beauty, one topic could be “Acrylic Nails vs. Gel Nails: Which Lasts Longer?” Start with an idea, research, brainstorm, and then write in your own words.
Step 5: Write & Publish Your First Post
Once you’ve brainstormed, it’s time to write. Don’t overcomplicate this:
- Outline your main points.
- Write like you’re talking to a friend.
- Use tools like Blogger’s editor to help with formatting.
- Publish — even if it feels imperfect.
Pro tip: Blogger has a built-in tool to insert external links easily, which helps with SEO. Use it!
Step 6: Market Your Blog
You can’t just hit publish and expect readers to flood in. You need to market your posts.
- Pinterest: This is your best friend. Create pins that link back to your blog posts. Pinterest works like a search engine (think Google, but visual).
Important: Pinterest takes around 3–4 months to show real results. Stay consistent.
My Biggest Mistakes (So You Don’t Repeat Them)
- Mistake #1: Using Bluehost/WordPress when I was just starting. → Solution: Use Blogger first.
- Mistake #2: Switching niches too often. → Solution: Stick to one niche once you’ve tested what feels right.
- Mistake #3: Waiting too long to publish my first post. → Solution: Publish messy, learn as you go.
Final Thoughts
Blogging doesn’t need to be expensive, technical, or overwhelming. If you’re starting in 2025, you can build a blog for $0, grow it through Pinterest, and slowly turn it into a real income stream.
This blog post is just the start. In upcoming posts, I’ll share:
- How to actually earn from your blog (ads, affiliates, products).
- How I use YouTube to build a second stream of income.
- A complete beginner’s guide to Pinterest marketing.
